Shirley Allum Hudlicky, October 14, 1965 letter to DeeAnna:
"Andy very much resembled the Allums in my branch of the tree--his hands, the pose, the shape of his head, and I do believe he had blue eyes."
When John Tyler was President, Andrew Kimmins "Andy" Allum was born in 1841 in Greene County, Pennsylvania, bringing to three the number of children of Jonathan Allum, 1817-1889, and Ellisabeth Supler, 1811-1893. Eventually, six more siblings joined them, one male dying in childhood and one female in infancy. Andrew's parents farmed in Richhill Township; so did the parents of his future wife, Margaret Ann Loar.
When Andrew and Margaret began married life in 1861, Abraham Lincoln was President. Their first years as a couple witnessed the Civil War and, afterward, the birth and death of daughter Lydia, born in 1866, died in 1868, then laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery, Wind Ridge, Greene County. Likely influenced by his elder brother John's migration in 1867, with four children Andrew and Margaret arrived in Jasper County, Iowa in 1869 settling near John Supler Allum, his wife Elisabeth and their family. There, Andrew and Margaret had four additional children, losing two -- sons George and John -- in 1871 and 1884.
Andrew lived in four states and farmed in all: Pennsylvania, Iowa, Missouri and Oklahoma. With wife and family, he left Iowa in 1893 settling in Pleasant Hill, Cass County, MO, pressing on by covered wagon to Woods County, OK in 1901 where he spent the remainder of his years. Margaret preceded Andrew in death by fourteen years, passing on in 1904. When Andrew died in 1918, it was during yet another War -- World War I -- when Woodrow Wilson was President. Andrew was buried beside Margaret in Union Center Cemetery near Dacoma in Woods County, where they share a tall stone bearing pertinent dates on two sides, as follows:
MARGARET ANN WIFE OF ANDREW K ALLUM BORN MAR 18, 1842 DIED SEPT 19, 1904

Shirley:
"When in Pennsylvania, I noted the A. K. Allum information in Bates' History of Greene County. The minute I returned to Iowa I looked to see if his family is in the Loar Genealogy. It is. It took until 1 a.m. one night to copy the data about John Supler Allum and Elisabeth (Loar) Allum and their descendants.
(THE LOAR FAMILY HISTORY AND GENEALOGY WITH COGNATE BRANCHES, 1774-1947, by Emma Loar Gaddis, provides info about the family of A. K. Allum beginning on page 124. In 1965 Merlyn George Guessford, Kellogg, Jasper County, Iowa owned a copy of this book, and it was from Merlyn's book that Shirley hand copied data. Below is the reference to Andrew as it appears in book. --DeeAnna)
