General Notes:
Tintype: This impressive tintype of Leroy Hudson Allum, 1855-1897, was a gift to ALLUM in 2008 from Ruby Guessford Temple. Leroy's image was preserved by, and passed down in, the John Supler Allum family. Leroy was the 9th and youngest child of Jonathan and Ellisabeth (Supler) Allum; his elder brother John had been the 1st and eldest child. Although John migrated west from Pennsylvania to Iowa where he spent the rest of his life, Leroy remained in or near the home county of both men -- Greene County, PA.

1855 BIRTH of Leroy Hudson Allum
Shirley Allum Hudlicky, letter to DeeAnna:
"Leroy's birthdate is 1855 on his gravestone, but the fives are formed so as to be easily mistaken for sixes--even if one were being very careful. His age is given as 47-7-12 in his obituary. It evidently should be 42-7-12. In the 1860 census, Leroy is age 5; in the 1870 census, he is age 17--the last obviously in error. And how is that for an accumulation of conflicting information?"
