OBITUARY
(Ira) from JASPER COUNTY RECORD, Jasper County, Iowa, November 25, 1926:

Ira Gilman Fugard was born near Homer, O., March 16, 1850, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jack Farmer, 600 South Fourth and one-half street Nov. 19, 1926.

He came to Newton in 1865 [see note below] with his parents, Samuel C. and Martha A Fugard, and has been a resident of Jasper county since that time. For the last 20 years he has lived in Newton.

On March 24, 1881 he was united in marriage with Annie R. Allum of Graysville, Pa. To this union four children were born: Mrs. Guy Wilson of Buffalo Lake, Minn., Mrs. Earl Smith of Des Moines and Mrs. Jack Farmer of Newton. A daughter, Dolly, died in infancy.

He is survived beside his widow and children by one brother, Frank E. Fugard, of Birmingham, Ala.

During his life in Newton, Mr. Fugard became extremely well known in the city. He spent his life here as a nurseryman and raised an exceptional grade of strawberries which were known throughout this section of the state.

He took an active part in the life of the city and was known as being behind any movement which held out a promise of betterment for the community.

During the 60 years he spent in Jasper county he acquired a wide circle of friends and acquaintances and was favorably known in all sections of the county.

Fugard Funeral Held Sunday

Funeral services for Ira G. Fugard who died last Friday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jack Farmer, with the Rev. W. H. Blancke, pastor of the Lutheran church in charge. Burial was made in the Newton cemetery.

Music for the service was furnished by Miss Gertrude Spellman and Mrs . Lola Wilson. Pallbearers were Dick Clark, Otto Callison, Atwell Spencer, Louie Krause and Lynn Russell.

Those from out of the city who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Churchill and Mr. and Mrs. Her?ea of Monroe; Mrs. E. R. Foster, Lee Clawson, Mr. and Mrs. Elex Lepard [should be Alex Lepard]and Miss Helen Sheehan of Kellogg; Miss Jeanette Mills, Miss Irene Ready, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Smith and Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Johnson of Des Moines.

Mrs. Ira Fugard Dies

Mrs. Ira Fugard, resident of this city for 22 years, died Friday evening at 7 o'clock at the home of her daughter Mrs. Francis Farmer, 604 East Four and one-half street South, at the age of 77 years. Mrs. Fugard had been failing in health for the last two weeks. Bronchial pneumonia was the cause of her death.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the home at 604 East Four and one-half street South, and burial was in Newton Union cemetery. Dr. W. H. Blancke, pastor of the local Lutheran church, had charge of the services.

Anna Allum was born near Graysville, Pa., Dec. 22, 1850 and died in this city May 11. She was united in marriage to Ira G. Fugard, March 24, 1881 and to this union four children were born. Dolly died in infancy and three daughters survive and they are: Mrs. Rhae Wilson of Buffalo Lake, Minn.; Mrs. Glen Smith of Des Moines and Mrs. Francis Farmer of this city and one granddaughter, Geraldine Wilson of Buffalo Lake, Minn. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Lydia Huffman of Graysville, Pa.

Mrs. Fugard was a graduate of the Waynesburg college. She was an interested worker in the Lutheran church when her health would permit. After the death of her husband, Nov. 19, 1927 [should be 1926], she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Francis Farmer. During her illness she had been under the care of a special nurse.

(Anna) from the WAYNESBURG REPUBLICAN, Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, May 24, 1928:

Mrs. Anna Allum Fugard, a native of this county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jack Farmer, of Newton, Iowa, Friday, May 11, aged 77 years, of pneumonia. She had been in failing health for several months. Mrs. Fugard was born in Richhill township, this county, December 22, 1850, and was a daughter of Jonathan and Elizabeth Supler Allum, deceased. She was a graduate of Waynesburg College in the class of 1876. For a few years she taught in the schools of Richhill township. In 1883 she removed to Iowa where she had since resided. She was a member of the Presbyterian church and was highly esteemed. Her husband, Ira G. Fugard, died November 19, 1926. She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Guy Wilson, of Buffalo Lake, Minn.; Mrs. Earl Smith, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Mrs. Jack Farmer, of Newton, Iowa, and one grandchild, Geraldine Wilson, and one sister, Mrs. Lydia Huffman, of Graysville, this county. The funeral was held on Monday. Interment in the cemetery at Newton, Iowa.


Anna's obituary states she moved to Iowa in 1883. The 1880 census documents her in Jasper County, Iowa in 1880.
