General Notes:
Photo: The monument for James H. and Sophia Jane (Allum) Carroll is at Enon Cemetery, Richhill Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania. Here we see the inscription for James that reads,
JAMES H. CARROLL DIED SEPT 1, 1888 AGED 45 YRS 10 MS 23 DAYS
Wife Sophia Jane (Allum) Carroll's inscription is on another side of the monument.
Seen to the left ... in the background ... is the tall, substantial stone for James "Jimmy" Allum and his wife, Rebecca Sermon. "Jimmy," son of Charles W. Allum and Jemima Barnhart, and Sophia Jane Allum (wife of James H. Carroll and daughter of Jonathan Allum and Ellisabeth Supler) were first cousins once removed.

1842 BIRTH of James H. Carroll
James' date of birth of "October 9, 1842" is calculated from his age at death on his tombstone: "45 years 10 months 23 days"
James' year of death in the Dorothy Hennen cemetery book that includes Richhill Township (Volume 11) is provided as 1882, which would calculate to his birth in 1836. However, throughout their census years together, James' age and that of his wife Sophia are virtually the same or one year apart. She was born in 1842.
1850 CENSUS, Pennsylvania, Washington County, Morris Township (September 25) ("James," age 8, with parents) ("Carrol" in some census indexes)
