1880 CENSUS, Pennsylvania, Greene County, Aleppo Township ("Daniel," age 52, "Farmer") (wife "Mary A.," age 49) ("Strope" in census) (This census shows Daniel's father to have been born in Germany and his mother, incorrectly, in England; even though Sarah was not born in England, might we interpret it as another reference to our heritage?)

1895 DEATH of wife Mary A. (Mitchell) Strope, at approximately 60 - 65 years (see note below)

Mary's stone at Windy Gap Cemetery documents her birth as October 1, 1830. The 1860 census provides her age as 26; the 1870 census as 35; and the 1880 census as 49. Because she may actually have been born about 1835, I have used "1830-1835." However, using her date of birth on her gravestone (October 1, 1830), her age at death calculates "65 years 1 month 10 days"

OBITUARY (Daniel) from WAYNESBURG REPUBLICAN, Waynesburg, Greene County, Pennsylvania, June 29, 1905:

DANIEL STROPE

Daniel Strope died at his home in West Alexander, Pa., Saturday evening, June 24, aged 77 years, of Bright's disease. Mr. Strope resided for many years at Aleppo, this county, having removed to West Alexander less than a year ago. He was well known and highly respected. Beside his wife he is survived by the following children: Mrs. Mildred Hunt, of Waynesburg; Mrs. Anna Braden, of Washington, Pa.; John E. Strope, of Aleppo; J. T. Strope, of Beham; G. W., and D. P., of Taylorstown; and H. G., of Valley Grove. Funeral services were held on Monday morning. Interment in Windy Gap C. P. Cemetery.

Daniel married Mary A. MITCHELL. (Mary A. MITCHELL was born on October 1, 1830-1835 in Pennsylvania, died on November 11, 1895 in Greene County, Pennsylvania and was buried in Windy Gap Cemetery, Springhill-Aleppo Township Line, Greene County, Pennsylvania.)
