Census excerpt from DeeAnna Allum Granston
Rebecca was named in the will of her father, William Allum, in 1831. Her fate while alive is among the Allum genealogy's "most wanted" ...
The 1830 CENSUS for Union Township in Fayette County, Pennsylvania (Fayette adjoins Washington County) reveals a Rebecca Allem as head of a household with one female 40-50 and one female 10-15. Was this an unmarried Rebecca (daughter of William Allum) with a younger female in her household? Or a Rebecca, wife of an unnamed, undocumented Allum? The Rebecca in the 1830 census would have been born between 1780 and 1790, in the time period to have been William's daughter. The younger female in the census would have been born 1815-1820.
Might this Rebecca have been the wife of the Thomas Allum speculated to be a son of William--a Thomas Allum who may have predeceased his father? In that case, Rebecca would have been a widow. The age span of the wife of Thomas Allum in the 1800 census in Peters Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania (born 1774-1784) does overlap the age span of Rebecca Allem in the 1830 census in Fayette County (born 1780-1790) by about 4 years: the years 1780-1784.
William Allum, ca 1754-1840, prepared and signed his will in 1831. Thomas Allum is not named.
