bullet  General Notes:

Census: "All in the Family" -- This extract is from the 1870 census for Buena Vista Township in Jasper County, Iowa. In 1870, Sarah (Allum) Blanton, her husband, "J. T. Blanton," and their infant son Arthur lived "almost next door" to the John Supler Allum family. Sarah was descended from William Allum's son Charles W. Allum (1796-1868). John Supler Allum was descended from William Allum's son John (1784-1836).

In 1870, immediately next door to Sarah was the Samuel Fugard family. Later, in 1881, Samuel's son, Ira Fugard, married Rachel Anna Allum, daughter of Jonathan and Ellisabeth (Supler) Allum. Rachel migrated from Pennsylvania to Iowa after graduating from Wayesburg College, Waynesburg, Greene County, Pennsylvania in 1876. In 1880, Rachel is documented as a school teacher in the household of William Kent in Rock Creek Township, Jasper County, Iowa. (Later, too, the surname KENT would intersect ALLUM through a marriage in the John Supler Allum line.)
