Rites Tuesday for E. Griggs
Elmer Elsworth Griggs, 76, died at his home in What Cheer Sunday. Funeral was at the Methodist church Tuesday, with service by the Rev. J. C. Porath. Mrs. A. U. Engelmann and Ruth Lash sang, with Mrs. Les Wilson at the piano. Burial was at Garrett cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. May Griggs; four brothers, John and Tom of What Cheer, Charlie of Indianapolis, and Dave of LeHigh; several nephews and nieces .
Mr. Griggs was born at New Elizabeth, Hendricks county, Ind., June 4, 1861. Sixty-two years ago he migrated in a covered wagon, settling near Indianapolis, Iowa. He was a well digger and later became a barber.
He was a barber at Delta, Ollie, Beacon, and Cedar Rapids. Twelve years ago he moved to What Cheer.
Fannie married Elmer Ellsworth GRIGGS, son of James Simpson GRIGGS and Melissa HAMPTON, on May 24, 1893 in Keokuk County, Iowa. (Elmer Ellsworth GRIGGS was born in June 1861 in Hendricks County, Indiana, died on May 29, 1938 in What Cheer, Keokuk County, Iowa and was buried on May 31, 1938 in Garrett Cemetery, Keokuk County, Iowa.)
