Photo: The given name of the first wife of Joseph Seaman is found spelled in various ways, including "Permelia" and "Permela." The latter is on her gravestone at Old Concord Cemetery in Morris Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania. She died at approximately 20 years leaving one son, Ezra Seaman, who migrated from Washington County, PA to Scott County, IA with his father Joseph and stepmother, Bethia (Teagarden) Seaman, in 1846. Ezra is buried at Oakdale Cemetery in Davenport, Scott County, Iowa, a victim of a yellow fever epidemic when he was a Civil War soldier. Permela married Joseph SEAMAN, son of William SEAMAN and Mary NICKESON, on December 15, 1841 in Washington County, Pennsylvania. (Joseph SEAMAN was born on September 3, 1816 in Washington County, Pennsylvania, died on February 4, 1889 in Scott County, Iowa and was buried on February 7, 1889 in Oakdale Cemetery, Davenport, Scott County, Iowa.) |
