Photo: The given name of the first wife of Joseph Seaman is found spelled in various ways, including "Permelia" and "Permela." The latter is on her gravestone at Old Concord Cemetery in Morris Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania. She died at approximately 20 years leaving one son, Ezra Seaman, who migrated from Washington County, PA to Scott County, IA with his father Joseph and stepmother, Bethia (Teagarden) Seaman, in 1846. Ezra is buried at Oakdale Cemetery in Davenport, Scott County, Iowa, a victim of a yellow fever epidemic when he was a Civil War soldier.
