MILITARY SERVICE: Civil War, enlisted in Pennsylvania on Sept 4, 1862, in Company A, 140th Regiment; transferred to 51st Company, 2nd Battalion; discharged Sept 4, 1865. Ben had been captured at the Battle of Gettysburg.

B. F. WALLACE

B. F. Wallace, a well known and respected citizen, died at his home, corner of Lincoln and Cumberland streets, Sunday evening, Dec. 24, at 8:25. He was in his 69th year and had been ill only a week with a complication of diseases. At the outbreak of the civil war he volunteered his service for the Union cause and served three years in Co. A, 140th Pennsylvania regiment. He was in the battle of Gettysburg, being taken prisoner there, and later removed to Belle Island and from there he was transferred to Libbey prison where he was confined for two months, when he was paroled. He was united in marriage in 1860 to Maria Sellers, who survives him. The following children also survive: John M., of Waynesburg, Mrs. Elijah Huggins, of McKeesport, Maggie and Laura Wallace, at home, Dr. George S. Wallace, a surgeon in the U. S. army, stationed at Viscaya, Porto (sic) Rico, and Miss Nannie Wallace, of Salem, Oregon. Deceased was highly esteemed and a man known for his strict honesty and integrity. He will be greatly missed in our community. Funeral was held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., services being conducted by Rev. J. B. Taylor.

MRS. B. F. WALLACE DIED SUDDENLY

Former Waynesburg Lady Passes Away at her Home in Cooks, Washington

Word was received here yesterday of the sudden death of Mrs. Maria J. Wallace, which occurred at her home at Cooks, Washington, Wednesday morning.

Mrs. Wallace was the widow of B. F. Wallace, deceased, and formerly resided in Waynesburg. She removed to the state of Washington about ten years ago.

Mrs. Wallace was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Sellers, deceased, and was aged about seventy-two years. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and was most highly respected. The following children survive: John Wallace, of Oswego, N. Y.; Dr. George Wallace of Pittsburgh; Mrs. E. H. Huggins, of Waynesburg; Mrs. Margaret Love and Miss Laura Wallace, of Cooks, Wash., and Mrs. Charles Dodd, of Salem, Oregon. Three brothers also survive, A. H. and Frank Sellers, of Waynesburg, and John Sellers, of Cincinnati, Ohio.

The remains will be brought to Waynesburg for interment.
