OBITUARY (John) from THE GAZETTE, Cedar Rapids, Linn County, Iowa, January 10, 1997:

John F. Schloeman Sr., 91, a resident of Willow Gardens Care Center, Marion, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 1997, in the care center following a long illness. Services: 3 p.m. Saturday, Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, by the Rev. Rollin Oswald. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home and after 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel.

Survivors include his wife, Myrna; a son, John F. Jr. of Thompsonville, Mo.; two daughters, Connie Turner of Cedar Rapids and Pamela Sippel and husband Robert of Marion; a sister, Enid Brookman of Dakota City, Neb.; 16 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

John was born Aug. 13, 1905, in Norway, Iowa, to Edward and Ida Fahnle Schloeman. He married Myrna Allum on Aug. 2, 1927, in Cedar Rapids. He was a switchman for the Chicago & North Western railroad for 35 years. John was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, United Transportation Union, Otter Creek Sportsman Club, N.A.R.V.E. and Eagles Club. For many years he was a player and member of M & J Baseball League.

Memorial contributions may be made to Willow Gardens Care Center, Marion.

Myrna C. Schloeman, 94, a resident of Willow Gardens Care Center, Marion formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, July 10, 1999 in the care center following a short illness. Services: I a.m. Wednesday, Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Shirley Hoffinann of St. James United Methodist Church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and at the chapel after 10 a.m.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister, Cleone Pelzer, and a brother, Wren Allum.

Myrna was born May 25, 1905 in Marengo, Iowa to John and Gertrude Amrine Allum. She married John F. Schloeman, Sr. on Aug. 3, 1927 in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1997.

Myrna was a member of St. James United Methodist Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crafts, crossword puzzles and loved to read. She was one of the few remaining daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War.

Myna will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A memorial fund has been established.
