Document: The 15th name from the top of this passenger list is that of "Geo." Schreck, father of Otto Schreck, who arrived at the Port of New York from Antwerp, Belgium with his wife and family on July 30, 1858, aboard the ship JOHN HANCOCK. Although son Otto was just 7 years old, he was the eldest of the siblings who made the Atlantic journey. The family surname is transcribed as "Schrick" on passenger lists. The family would have had to make its way from New York to the Midwest, and in 1860 they are in Morgan County, Missouri. Father George Schreck is designated "Farmer" in the 1860 census; his name is transcribed "Shrake" in some census indexes.

In the 1900 census, children listed are Mary, born April 1877; Amina (?), born September, 1879; Joseph H., born October, 1882; Leo, August,1885; Emma, April, 1888; Peter, November 1891; George, August, 1894; and Bertha, August, 1897 -- a total of just 8.

All are shown as having been born in Missouri.

Katherine's location of birth is provided as "Minnesota" in the 1900 census but "Wisconsin" in the 1910 census.

In 1860 and 1870 census years, when in the household of her parents, Katherina is documented as having been born in Wisconsin.
