Marriage: Large ledger-type books in which records (birth, marriage, death) span two pages--left and right--is typical of documentation in courthouses. Such is the case regarding the 1886 record of marriage at the Jasper County, Iowa court house for Mary Belle Allum and Leander "Lee" Guessford. To present data in a practical manner in this online file, however, pertinent excerpts from the left page and the right page have been combined.
Excerpts reveal the county marriage record number for Mary Belle and Lee is 1297, and the date of their license was September 8. The affidavit for marriage was made by "James N. Allum" (James Newton Allum), elder brother of the bride. "Lee A. Guessford," "farmer," who lived in Jasper County, Iowa, was the groom.
