WASHINGTON OBSERVER, Washington, Washington County, Pennsylvania, October 12, 1912:
Mrs. Rebecca P. Allum, widow of James Allum, deceased, who for many years resided at Simpsons Store, East Finley township, is in her 94th year and is enjoying excellent health. "Better wear out than rust out" is her motto, and she makes practical illustrations of each day, when she engages in various kinds of housework at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James M. Swart, of near Eno, where she resides. During the past two or three years Mrs. Allum has pieced and put together a number of fancy quilts for her daughters, besides doing general housework. She reads the daily papers and keeps well posted on political matters and general current events as well, and engages in brilliant conversation when afforded an opportunity. Mrs. Allum was born in Philadelphia nearly 94 years ago, and she has a longing disposition to return some time to her native city and view the site where she secured her education.
Rebecca married James [Jimmy] ALLUM, son of Charles W. ALLUM and Jemima BARNHART, on November 30, 1843 in St. Clairsville, Belmont County, Ohio. (James [Jimmy] ALLUM was born on January 9, 1822 in Greene County, Pennsylvania, died on September 16, 1905 in East Finley Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania and was buried on September 18, 1905 in Enon Cemetery, Richhill Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania.)
