OBITUARY (Silas) from HISTORY AND BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD OF THE ENON BAPTIST CHURCH, 1848-1990, by The Historical Committee, page 151:
"Silas W. Ely (sic) died, at 11 o'clock, on Sunday, 3rd December 1905, at his home near Simpson's Store, at the age of 56 years after a short illness. Mr. Ely was a native of East Finley township, a son of Martin Ealy, who died several years ago. He was employed as a carpenter and had many friends throughout the neighborhood. He was married to Nina Belle, daughter of the late James Allum, who survives with two children - James, who is married and lives on what is known as the John Wise farm, and Mrs. Rebecca Sprowls, of Enon. He is also survived by his mother, who is 82 years old, three brothers and six sisters, namely: James A. of Waynesburg; John R. of West Alexander; M. Ellsworth of Burdette; Mrs. James Supler of West Alexander; Mrs. George Smith of Harvey's; Mrs. John W. Hunt of Simpson's Store; Mrs. Wilson Rockey of Lancaster, Ohio; Mrs. John A. Booth of West Alexander. The funeral service was held at 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Interment in Enon Cemetery."
Notation with above obituary: Taken from two different obituaries. One spelled Ely, the other, Ealy. One said Silas was 56 years old, the other, 57 years old. One said that he died at his home, the other said that he died at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Woods in East Finley township.

West Finley, Dec. 4--Silas W. Ely died at his home near Simpsons Store yesterday afternoon at the age of 56 years after a short illness. He was employed as a carpenter and had many friends throughout the neighborhood. He is survived by his wife and two children, James M. Ely and Mrs. Rebecca Sprowls, Simpsons Store, and his mother, Mrs. Nancy Ely. The deceased is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: James R. Ely, West Alexander; Mrs. E. Ely, West Finley, and James A. Ely, Waynesburg; Mrs. James Supler, West Alexander; Mrs. George Smith, Harveys; Mrs. John W. Hunter, Simpsons Store; Mrs. Willis Rockey, Lanc (unreadable), Ohio; Mrs. John Burns, Waynesburg and Mrs. J. G. Booth, West Alexander. Funeral services will be held at Eno Baptist church Tuesday at (unreadable) o'clock. The interment will be in Eno cemetery.

In Memoriam.
Silas W. Ealy was born June 10, 1849 and died December 3, 1905, of a complication of diseases. He was preceded by his father and four sisters, while his mother, Mrs. Nancy Ealy, three brothers and several sisters survive. He leaves also his wife, his son, James M., and a daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Sprowls, all of Simpson's store, Pa. Brother Ealy joined the Enon Baptist church about thirty-five years ago and for many years has been chorister and Sunday School superintendent. Brother Ealy was a quiet, peaceable man, a kind neighbor and a good friend. He was buried Dec. 5, in the Enon burial ground, followed to his last earthly resting place by a large company of relatives and friends, mourning the untimely departure of a good and useful man. The funeral services were held in the Enon church conducted by his former pastor, John A. Simpson. "Trust thou in God for I shall yet praise Him; who is the health of my countenance, and my God."

MRS. SILAS EALY
Mrs. Peninah Belle Ealy, widow of Silas Ealy, deceased, died at the home of her son, James M. Ealy, of Sycamore, aged 66 years. Her death was due to cancer, from which she had been suffering for the past year. Mrs. Ealy was a daughter of James Allum, deceased, and was highly esteemed. She was a member of the Enon Baptist church. One son, James M. Ealy, of Sycamore, survives and also her mother, Mrs. Rebecca Allum, and a sister, Mrs. James Swart, of Enon. The funeral services were held in the Enon Baptist church Saturday at 1 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Gillespie. Interment in the Enon cemetery.
