Civil War Pension, 1 of 7: Although a resident of Koszta in Iowa County, Iowa, Alexander Teagarden Fields' DECLARATION FOR INVALID PENSION was executed in Davenport, Scott County, Iowa and is signed and dated August 6, 1866. Providing important information about his enrollment, it declares he was wounded in Jonesborough, Georgia on August 31, 1864 and describes the wound as follows:

"While in the line of his duty with his Company & Regiment at the place and date above stated [Jonesborough, Georgia, August 31, 1864] he received a Shell wound in his left hip, a piece of shell entering near the joint disabling him from active exercises as manual laborer ever since, was treated in U. S. Field Hospital at Atlanta, Ga. and from there was sent to U. S. Gen' l. Hospital at Camp McClellan near Davenport, Iowa. He also contracted ' varicocels ' in June, 1864. While on duty in Georgia since the above wound this disease has become painful and rendering him unfit for manual labor."
