Family Photo On Glass Almira Jane "Alice" ALLUM

bullet  General Notes:

Photo: The size of the original image on glass from which this photographic copy was subsequently created is unknown to this researcher. In 1965, Shirley Allum Hudlicky photographed the glass treasure while visiting Greene County, Pennsylvania. The resulting print, shared with me that same year, is small (2" X 3"). For easier viewing I have greatly enlarged the photo on this page.

The family group includes, left to right, Charles Harrison Allum, standing and holding reins of the horse; his mother, Almira Jane "Alice" Allum, seated; Charles' young son, John Harrison Allum; his young daughter, Grace Allum (later Plants); and his wife, Nora Belle (Sprowls) Allum.

Born in 1891 (John "Harry") and 1893 (Grace), this remembrance that includes the two children would have been created shy of the turn of the century. (Son Frederick "Fred" McKinley Allum, who later possessed the photo on glass but does not appear in this family group, was born in July, 1897.)

Grace lived until 1995, passing on at age 101 years 9 months 5 days. She lived longest of any Allum descendant documented to date.

, October 14, 1965 letter to DeeAnna:

"Fred Allum let me take this photo on glass to the motel in Waynesburg where my equipment was to copy it. I lived in mental torture until I returned it to him intact."
