Frank died at the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown, Marshall County, Iowa




DESCRIPTION (Frank): 5 feet 6 inches tall, dark complexion, dark eyes, dark hair (from military record with signature)

MILITARY SERVICE: Civil War, 28th IOWA INFANTRY. From Book Twenty-Eighth Infantry pg. 1271: FIELDS, Francis M. age 19, resident Koszta , IA; Nativity Pennsylvania; enlisted Aug. 10, 1862 in the Twenty-Eighth IA Infantry, Co. B; Mustered: Aug. 20, 1862; Mustered out: July 31, 1865 in Savanna, GA. Frank applied for admission to the Iowa State Soldier's Veterans Home on October 18, 1914 and was admitted the following day. He died there on February 2, 1924.

No inscription for Frank appears on the existing large family stone. He was, however, the last to die in his family. There is a G.A.R. marker for him.

"They [Frank and Sarah] [Sarah's last name is spelled GARBY instead of GORBY] had a number of children, all unmarried and buried in the Koszta Cemetery. Francis, 1871-72; Jessie T., 1875-79; Addie G., 1878-1902; Nellie M., 1879-99; Alpha, 1881-85; and Ruey Fields, 1883-85."
