**********
William came to Meigs County, Ohio in 1823 with the Stephen Smith family of Dunbar Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
William Hiland was a farmer and raised champion horses. The Hiland farm was north of Pomeroy, but the farmhouse was razed to make way for Highway 7. William married Jane McGinty, who died in Meigs County but is not in the Beech Grove Cemetery listings.
The 1850 Meigs County, Ohio census documents William and Jane with their daughters Caroline and Clementine with a "Lycergus" in their household who, according to the 1880 census, was their grandson; his death certificate says his parents were William and Mariah. Also in the home was Jane's daughter from her first marriage, Anne Whitty, age 35,and Anne's daughter Matilda.
William married Jane McGINTY about 1820 in Meigs County, Ohio. (Jane McGINTY was born in 1792 in Dublin, Ireland and died on June 10, 1868 in Meigs County, Ohio.)
