Wedding Announcement: In March 1875 Emma A. (Wright) McPherson became the widow of William McPherson after a marriage of less than two years. On September 16, 1877 she married widower William C. Baty, as reported in the EFFINGHAM DEMOCRAT of September 20. (Baty's wife, Sarah James, had died in March '77.) Baty brought four children to the marriage and Emma one, her son Samuel George McPherson. She died ten years later, in 1887. Her widower, William C. Baty, died in Colorado in 1905.

"Wonders never cease. On last Sunday morning, Wm. C. Baty, ex-sheriff, was married to Mrs. Emma McPherson of this place ..."

and previously in the EFFINGHAM DEMOCRAT of March 1, 1877:

"Died, at her residence in Lucas township, Mrs. Sarah Baty, wife of ex-Sheriff W. C. Baty, after a painful illness of four weeks. Mrs. Baty was converted in 1859 and united with the Elliotstown Baptist church, of which she has ever remained a consistent member. She was born July 25th, 1840; not living quite two score years in this world of sorrow."

GEORGE W. WRIGHT [younger brother of Emma A. Wright, subject of this web page], born in Summit Twp., Effingham Co, Ill., June 19, 1858, son of George and Thankful (Spaulding) Wright. His mother, Thankful, was born in the Western Reserve, Ohio in May, 1826; came to Illinois with her parents and married George Wright, Nov. 14, 1844. She died in 1892 in Dietrich, Ill. She was a daughter of Phineas Spaulding, who was born in Conn., Nov. 7, 1790 and in 1822 moved to Ohio and on to Ill., in 1839. He married Thankful Moses in 1845, moved to Iowa and died in 1847. Daniel Spaulding, father of Phineas, was born in Norfolk, Conn., July 25, 1750 and was a noted Rev. patriot. He enlisted in Capt. Andrew Bucher's company under Col. John Douglas. Daniel was the son of Jacob, who was born in Conn., Dec. 17, 1732 and his father, Edward, was born at Chelmsford, Mass., in Sept. 1693, a son of Edward, born Sept. 16, 1663 at Braintree, Maine, and came to Chelmsford with his father Edward in 1630.

John Wright, the paternal grandfather of George W., entered the first piece of land in Effingham Co. but was accidentally killed while working as a brickmason on the State House at Vandalia. John Wright came to Wayne Co. from Philadelphia prior to the birth of his son George [father of Emma, subject of this page]on Aug. 31, 1820. In 1834 the Wrights came to Effingham Co. Mr. Wright died July 15, 1871. To him and his wife were born the following children: Thomas N., Emma A. [subject of this web page], Millina, Hannah E., George W., Mary A., and Mina.

George W. [subject of this bio] married Clara Beard, who was born in St. Francis twp., Effingham Co., Sept. 10, 1867, and died Nov. 7, 1891, having borne two sons--Arland B., b. Feb. 1889, editor at Dietrich, and James A., b. Sept. 11, 1909, d. Aug. 3, 1907.

Emma married William McPHERSON, son of Samuel McPHERSON and Sarah Ann STREET, on June 13, 1873 in Effingham County, Illinois. (William McPHERSON was born on September 8, 1843 in Washington, D. C, died on March 14, 1875 in Effingham, Effingham County, Illinois and was buried on March 16, 1875 in Effingham Cemetery, Effngham, Effingham County, Illinois.)
