POSTCARD
To Miss Hattie L. Fields
Solon, Johnson Co., Iowa
Care A. Meacham

Kostza, Iowa
April 15, 1878

Dear Hattie,

I was so glad to hear from you again and to know that you were having such a nice time. Today is Gracie's ninth birthday. She did not have a birthday party. School began today. Myra and Orrie Fields have the Scarlet Fever very bad. We hope no one in Koszta will have it. Am glad you are away even if you have the whooping cough, for Auntie can take such good care of you. Nellie has it--coughs quite hard at night, but she plays all day. She says, "I am DOING right after Hattie myself. Hattie is a nice little girl, and I want her." Papa is quite spry again, is in the store today. Cousin George's move to Nebraska tomorrow. Manda and Harry are well again. Ernest has been sick, is better. I have a class in Sabbath School now. Gracie and (unreadable) and Lillie are in it. Good Bye.

Your Mama

Original vintage postcard, owned by DeeAnna, was written by Emma (Meacham) Fields to her daughter Hattie who was visiting in the household of Emma's father, Anderson Meacham. Emma's husband was Alexander Teagarden Fields. Gracie, Nellie and Hattie are children of Emma and Alex.

Myra (Almira) Fields and Orrie (Arthur Ora) Fields were Hattie's first cousins.
