By 1860, Nancy had remarried to Jacob Newland, whose name is "Newel" in an 1860 census index. In the Jacob Newland household are three of Nancy's children by John Allum: "Manerva," age 14, William, and Osa ("Oca"). Also in the household is Margaret Newland, Nancy's daughter by Jacob.

(Manerva) from an undocumented 1926 newspaper:

Mrs. Morgan Simpson

Mrs. Manerva Allum Simpson, wife of Morgan Simpson, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hugh Sprowls, near Old Concord, of a complication of diseases, Tuesday, May 4, 1926, two months past her 80th year. Short funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Standard time at the Sprowls home, and the full service in Concord Presbyterian church, in charge of the pastor, Rev. James Hamilton.

Mrs. Simpson was born in Greene county March 4, 1846, daughter of John and Nancy Allum, and with the exception of a short time in Illinois, she had always resided in Greene and Washington counties. Nearly sixty years ago--Oct. 2, 1866, in Illinois, she was united in marriage with Morgan J. Simpson. Since returning to this county they had resided near Old Concord. She united with Concord Presbyterian congregation and continued a faithful member, giving devoted service and teaching a class in Sunday School. She was esteemed as a devoted wife and mother and good neighbor. Two children are deceased, but two daughters and two sons are bereft with the husband--Nannie, wife of Jessie Montgomery, East Finley; Edna, wife of Hugh Sprowls, Old Concord; Frank Simpson, West Finley; and Dr. Lee Simpson, practicing physician of Wellsburg; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.




OBITUARY
(John) from an undocumented 1932 newspaper:

John Morgan Simpson

John Morgan Simpson, well known farmer and resident of East Finley, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jesse Montgomery, at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 1932, after a prolonged illness, aged 85 years, eight months and 14 days. The funeral service will be held at the Montgomery home at 1:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Burial will be in Prosperity cemetery. Service to be conducted by his pastor, J. B. Miller, of Concord Presbyterian church, assisted by Rev. J. W. Winwood, of Fairmont United Brethren church.

Mr. Simpson was united in marriage with Miss Minerva Allum in 1866. They resided on the Simpson farm until near the time of Mrs. Simpson's death. Since then he has resided with his children. He united with Concord Cumberland Presbyterian church many years ago, the congregation merging with the Presbyterian church.

He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Jesse Simpson and Mrs. Hugh Sprowls, both of East Finley, and two sons, Dr. W. L. Simpson, of Wellsburg, W. Va. and Frank Simpson, of West Finley. Two children are deceased, Tony, who died in infancy, and Mrs. Nellie E. Newman, whose death occurred several years ago. He leaves ten grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was the last of a family of ten children born to the late Dr. Jonathan and Elizabeth Garret Simpson, natives of Indiana, who located on the old Simpson homestead, where Morgan Simpson was born August 12, 1846.


Note: John Morgan Simpson's parents were natives of Ireland. John Morgan Simpson had been born on the old Simpson homestead.

Manerva married John Morgan SIMPSON, son of Jonathan SIMPSON and Elizabeth GARRET, on October 2, 1866 in Livingston County, Illinois. (John Morgan SIMPSON was born on August 12, 1846 in Pennsylvania, died on April 26, 1932 in Washington County, Pennsylvania and was buried on April 30, 1932 in Prosperity Cemetery, Prosperity, Washington County, Pennsylvania.)
