bullet  General Notes:

Photo: The family pet "Dandy" is included in this significant photo of young Corbly Robert Samuel Boone Allum. Robert, called "Bob," was the (adopted or foster) son of James P. and Rebecca Jane "Jennie" (Carroll) Allum. Archived at the Greene County Historical Society, Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, the photo was scanned in 2005 by Candice Buchanan who wrote in a January 15, 2007 e-mail, "The handwritten inscription reads ' Bob Allum and Dandy.' It is an original, professional photo from F. S. Hawkins, Photographer, Dougan's Building, Waynesburg, Pa."

1891
BIRTH of Corby Robert Samuel Boone Allum ("Robert" and "Bob")

1900 CENSUS, Pennsylvania, Greene County, Richhill Township ("Corbly R.," age 8, "foster son," born December, 1892, "at school," is in the household of "Park" and Jennie Allum; also in the household is the Allum daughter "Annie," age 27, Annie's husband, "Sherman F." Grim," age 34, "Lawyer," and their son, Allum Grim, age 3)

The "December 1892" month and year of birth provided for Robert in the 1900 census are incorrect based upon the April, 1892 newspaper article about his adoption (see below). Also, Robert's year of birth on his gravemarker at Dayton National Cemetery is "1891."

1910
CENSUS, Pennsylvania, Greene County, Waynesburg Borough ("Robt.," age 18, with parents)

1915 MARRIAGE (approximate) of Robert Allum; he is believed to have married Grace Baker of Ohio

A child of Robert and Grace was born, and died, in 1916 --State of Ohio Death Certificate No. 46264

1917 REGISTRATION, World War I Draft, Ohio, Summit County, Akron ("Corbly Robert Samuel Boone Allum," age 26, born April 13, 1890, in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, married, employed in 1917 at a dairy in Akron, Ohio) (If born in April, 1890 Robert would have been age 27 upon registering for the draft in June, 1917. He provided his age as 26, leading one to conclude he was actually born in April, 1891. However, April, 1891, does not coincide with the newspaper article pertaining to his adoption that states he was "five or six months old" in April, 1892.)

1920 CENSUS, (PERHAPS) Ohio, Summit County, Akron Township, Akron Ward 7 ("Robert C.," age 28, single, born Pennsylvania, occupation, "Baker, Baking," is "Roomer" in the household of Earl Bella, Bells or Bell ("Bells" in some census indexes) (handwriting appears to be "Allem" on census but is transcribed "Allen")

1930 CENSUS

1942 REGISTRATION for World War II, Ohio, Summit County, Akron ("Robert Corbly Allum," age 51, born April 13, 1891 in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, unemployed, address 37 1/2 Ira Avenue, Akron, Ohio, "name and address of person who will always know your address," Betty Allum, 926 Nevens Avenue, Akron, Ohio -- a different address from Robert's own address)

Robert's date of birth of April 13, 1891 differs by exactly one year from that on his World War I Draft card. Either, he was about one year old when adopted in 1892 -- not "five or six months" as stated in the newspaper article below -- or April 13, 1891 may have been designated by Robert and/or his adoptive parents as his "official" date of birth.

1967 DEATH, Corbly Robert Samuel Boone "Robert" Allum, at 76 years 7 months 18 days (based upon April 13, 1891 as Robert's date of birth)

Buried in Section 12, Row 28, Grave 3 in Dayton National Cemetery, Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio ("PFC, U S Army")
