1858 BIRTH of Andrew Max Fields ("Max")

While the 1900 census documents Andrew's birth as "October, 1858," the year "1858" conflicts with estimates of his mother Ann's year of marriage to his father John. However, Andrew's death certificate from the State of Missouri documents his date of birth as October 9, 1858.

1860 CENSUS. Is the "Stephen D. Fields," age 10 months, in the household of parents John and Ann, actually "Andrew Max"? The census was taken in August, 1860. That would compute to a birth about October, 1859 ...

"Clyde Allen Fields was born in Delta, Keokuk County, Iowa in 1884 to Andrew ' Max ' Fields and Sadie Hankins married in 1882.

"Max" had half brothers Allen and Warren. His father was John and his mother, Ann, originally from Pennsylvania.

"Allen was married to a woman by the name of Hale, and they had a home just out of Delta, Iowa.

"Warren lived in Ladora, Iowa and was a cattle buyer."

"I AM SO EXCITED! I had been searching for at least two years and had not been able to find a thing about Andrew Max other than a copy of a marriage certificate.

"Data about Sadie Hankins' family dates to 1740 (and possibly 1620).

"Andrew M. Fields and Sadie Hankins were married in Delta, Keokuk County, Iowa in December of 1882. They had three children, Clyde Allen, William, and Cora. Sadie died in July of 1890 at age 24. I don't know how long Andrew kept the three children, but it is my understanding the children were in an orphanage shortly after Sadie died.

"Max married a widow with children and those children, I was told, were also put in an orphanage.

"The widow's name was Emma Hendrix and she and Max had six more children: Four girls, Ferne, Alice, Stella and Helen, and two boys who died either at birth or shortly after.

"In 1905 Max moved his family to West Plains, Missouri. He must have been in poor health because the reason for the move was that he thought the weather would be warmer and better for him. He died on December 13th, 1911 and is buried in Homeland Cemetery, Missouri."
