Catherine "Kate" (Maiden Name Unknown) BELL
- Born: 1820-1821, Pennsylvania
- Marriage: Mr. BELL before 1839
General Notes:
BELL researchers, is Catherine - Katherine in your database as a wife to a Bell male?
Catherine "Kate" (maiden name unknown) Bell is one of our Allum genealogy's "most wanted." Her name has been found beginning with a "K" and with a "C."
Even though I have included Catherine "Kate" Bell with William Allum and his second wife Eve in this online file, Kate is not believed to have been a daughter of William and Eve. William Allum's will, dated 1831, refers to only to the potential of a child, or children, with Eve.
Was Catherine ("Kate") Eve's daughter by a previous marriage? We know neither Eve's maiden name nor a previous married name.
Kate had born 1820-1821. In 1820-1821, William Allum's second wife Eve would have been 38-39 years old.
(Although William Allum's first wife was living in 1820-1821, her child bearing seems to have ended about 1800. Also, in 1820-1821, William's first wife would have been in her 60s! )
Kate first appears on our horizon in the 1850 census, documented in the Eve "Ellem" (Allum) household in West Bethlehem Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania. (William died in 1840.) Except for the 1810 census when he is in Richhill Township in Greene County, Pennsylvania, William himself had always been documented in West Bethlehem Township in Washington County.
1820-1821 BIRTH of Catherine (maiden name unknown) (married name Bell) ("Kate")
1850 CENSUS, Pennsylvania, Washington County, West Bethlehem Township (Kate, age 29, and her four Bell children are with Eve "Ellem" [should be Allum]) (the Bell children are William H., 10; Dan'l. F., 8; Amanda, 6; Geo. F., 3)
1860 CENSUS, Pennsylvania, Washington County, West Bethlehem Township (Kate, age 38, is head of a household as "Housekeeper" with her four children, William, 21; Daniel, 18; Amanda, 16; and George, 14) (whether or not there is any significance, next door to Kate are William and Sarah Dawson* and their children)
*An individual named William Dawson is in Deer Creek Upper Hundred in Harford County, Maryland in 1783, as is William Allum in 1783. The William Dawson next door to Kate Bell in Washington County, Pennsylvania in 1860 was born about 1814-1815 in PA, and his parentage has not been investigated. --DeeAnna
1870, Pennsylvania, Washington County, West Bethlehem Township, Ten Mile (Catherine, age 50, with son George, whose age appears to be "20," having aged just 6 years in 10!)
I have not found Kate in a census record after 1870. --DeeAnna
Catherine married Mr. BELL before 1839.
