1827
BIRTH of Hannah Allum

(In 1827 slavery was officially abolished in the State of New York and 10,000 slaves were freed. The Louisiana legislature approved a $10,000 gift for the family of Thomas Jefferson, who died in debt. The first sawmill in the Pacific Northwest Territory opened five miles outside of Fort Vancouver. In Michigan Territory, an Indian uprising occurred in opposition to lead miners intruding into tribal lands in the Galena area [later in Illinois]. Sam Houston was elected Governor of Tennessee. In Massachusetts, Edgar Allen Poe's first book of poetry was published in Boston; in Salem, Joseph Dixon opened the first lead pencil factory. New Orleans held its first Mardi Gras.)

1850s MARRIAGE of Hannah Allum and Charles Parson

1852 DEATH of Hannah Allum Parson at 25 years 5 months 9 days

(The first of Charles and Jemima Allum's children to pass on, Hannah died seven years before her mother and sixteen years before her father. Less than one month after her death in 1852, Franklin Pierce was elected to succeed Millard Fillmore as President. UNCLE TOM'S CABIN, by anti-slavery novelist Harriet Beecher Stowe, sold 300,000 copies. In Texas, Richard King established the largest ranch in the state. In Utah, the Mormons announced polygamy as part of their faith. In New Hampshire, Yale and Harvard held its first rowing meet. Daniel Webster died in Massachusetts, four months after the death of his rival, Henry Clay. Also in Massachusetts, brown paper bags were machine-produced for shoppers who no longer had to haul purchases home in baskets. Before her death, 'think young Hannah heard the 1851 hit "Swanee River" by Stephen Foster? 'Knew that Isaac Merritt Singer had a patent for a sewing machine? 'Heard about, or read, Herman Melville's MOBY DICK?)
