Photo: To date I do not know the middle name of John Wilson but have found only his consistently-used middle initial "N." John and his wife are buried in Newton Union Cemetery, Newton, Jasper County, Iowa. His gravemarker documents his Civil War service in Company E, 40th Iowa Infantry.

WILSON, J. N.
., farmer, Sec. 32; was born in Hendricks Co, Ind., Feb. 5, 1843; moved to this county with his parents in 1853 settling in Buena Vista Tp. Enlisted Aug. 12, 1862, in the 40th I. V. I., Co. E; was engaged in many severe skirmishes and was honorably discharged in Aug., 1865. He returned to this county, and Dec. 27, 1866, married Nancy J. Green, who is a native of Iowa; they have two children--Fannie M. and Frederick E. Mrs. W. is a member of the M. E. Church. Mr. W. owns 120 acres of land valued at $4,800, ninety acres of which is improved, and the balance is timber and pasture; has also a brick kiln on his farm, and a good dwelling house with substantial barn and outbuildings; he has resided here since 1875. Politically he is a Republican.


The aforementioned book was published in 1878 before the 1882 birth of John and Nancy's son, Guy Everett Wilson.
