OBITUARY (James) from an undocumented newspaper:


James Herbert McLaughlin, 81, of 605 Sweny, died Thursday at 2 p.m. following an extended illness.

He was born July 26, 1880, at Dodgeville, Ia., the son of William and Mary Anne (sic) Counihan McLaughlin. On Feb. 1, 1910, he married Nellie E. Slavin (sic) in Dodgeville.

She died in 1941.

On Nov. 20, 1951, he married Bertha Mae Bailey at Kahoka, Mo. He farmed most of his life in the Dodgeville vicinity, retiring several years ago. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. M. H. Smith of Burlington, with whom he made his home, Mrs. Derrald J. Martin, Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. Edward DiLeva, New Hyde Park, Long Island, N.Y., Mrs. Herbert Beckman, West Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. Leonard W. Covert, Yuciapa (sic), Calif., Miss Agnes McLaughlin, Burlington; one brother, Joseph McLaughlin, Burlington; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

Two daughters and several sisters and brothers died earlier.

Services will be Monday at 9 a.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church. The cortege will leave Prugh's Chapel at 8:50 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery at Dodgeville.

The Rosary will be recited at Prugh's Chapel at 8:15 p.m. Sunday.

James married Nellie Elizabeth SLAVEN, daughter of James Monroe SLAVEN and Sophia L. STROTHMAN, on February 1, 1910 in Dodgeville, Des Moines County, Iowa. (Nellie Elizabeth SLAVEN was born on April 2, 1888 in Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa, died on February 25, 1941 and was buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Dodgeville, Des Moines County, Iowa.)

James next married Bertha Mae BAILEY on November 20, 1951 in Kahoka, Clark County, Missouri.
